| Currently, I'm researching a Sylvanus Merritt I found in the 1800, York County, South Carolina census. I'm trying to determine if he, or one of his son's are in the line to our William Merritt, born 1804. In 1800 the Sylvanus Merritt household had 1 male 10-16 years old, 2 males 16-26 years old, 1 female 26-45 years old, 1 female over 45 and 1 male over 45. Sylvanus may have been the first Merritt in York County, South Carolina, which was established in 1798. I've found a family tree showing Sylvanus was born about 1752, the son of Benjamin Merit of the Greenville District, South Carolina. I'm also researching the York family line and our Cherokee Indian lineage. My Great-Grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee from North Georgia. Please contact me if you have info on any of these lines! |
